The first third-party gaming benchmarks of Intel’s 14th Gen processors are out in the form of Factorio UPS scores. The Raptor Lake Refresh offers a minimal improvement over existing 13th Gen parts, but that is enough to make the Core i7-14700K faster than the 13700K and the 13900K. The Core i9-14900K, on the other hand, is 10 FPS/UPS higher than the 13900K but considerably slower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

AMD’s Zen 4 3D CPU is a whopping 63% faster than Intel’s upcoming Raptor Lake-S Refresh flagship. The 14900K is even slower than the previous-gen Ryzen 7 5800X3D in this Factorio “factory” setup. The game likely stores the entire level’s dataset on the on-die V-Cache, resulting in a significant performance advantage over the Intel 14th Gen 14900K.

Unlike most 3D games, Factorio uses UPS “Updates Per Second” to measure performance. It needs 60 UPS to maintain a steady refresh rate of 60 FPS. However, as the complexity of the factory increases, either due to structure expansion or mods, the performance also starts to decrease.

""

Another point to note is that the memory kits used in these benchmarks are unknown. While a larger memory pool will improve performance, it’s unlikely to confer a 60%+ boost. Regardless, till the specs of both systems are known, take these with a grain of salt.
