However, unknown to many (including us), these cards were originally planned to leverage the 12VHPWR power connector like NVIDIA&#8217;s higher-end RTX cards. In an interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.club386.com\/scott-herkelman-qa-amd-radeon-boss-answers-your-burning-rx-7800-xt-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with Club386<\/a>, AMD Radeon SVP and GM <strong>Scott Herkelman<\/strong> revealed this and much more about the RDNA 3 family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hardwaretimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/AMD-Radeon-RX-7800-XT-and-RX-7700-XT-1-1920x871.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-85575\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote quote-solid is-layout-flow wp-block-quote quote-solid-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We specifically, for 7900 Series, and even 7600, we didn\u2019t plan on the new power cable, but 7800 and 7700 did have a plan for it. We removed it, and that was a purposeful removal. You shouldn\u2019t blame end users for issues you have. You should catch and own any problems, just like we did with the vapour-chamber issue. I was all over social media because I felt like it was AMD\u2019s problem and I was going to own it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until this power issue is cleaned up and there\u2019s good confidence it\u2019s working correctly for end users, that\u2019s where you\u2019ll start to see us incorporate it into our planning. The ability for someone to say it\u2019s an end-user\u2019s fault is a little strange to AMD and definitely strange to me.<\/p>\n<cite><strong><em>Scott Herkelman, AMD Radeon Lead<\/em><\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So turns out that AMD <strong>specifically left<\/strong> the RX 7600 and RX 7900 series cards out of its 12VHPWR plans, choosing the midrange RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT as the first SKUs for the test. However, following the public outrage over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hardwaretimes.com\/nvidia-rtx-4090-power-connectors-are-still-burning-and-damaging-graphics-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>burning\/melting<\/strong><\/a> of the 12+4 pin adapters, the plan was shelved and delayed to the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hardwaretimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/AMD-RDNA-3-Radeon-RX-7900-XTX-7900-XT-Graphics-Cards-Design-GPU-_9-1456x819-1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-78048\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Herkelman stated that NVIDIA shouldn&#8217;t have passed the blame for the igniting power connector to gamers. Referencing the Radeon RX 7900 series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hardwaretimes.com\/amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-shipments-likely-on-hold-as-rma-rate-climbs-to-11-for-rdna-3-flagship-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>vapor chamber<\/strong><\/a> issue, he asserted that companies are supposed to catch and own any problems plaguing their products rather than pass on the buck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AMD plans to integrate the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hardwaretimes.com\/nvidia-rtx-4090-12vhpwr-failures-explained-manufacturing-defect-plus-improper-connector-insertion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">12VHPWR<\/a><\/strong> power connector into its Radeon graphics cards once the smoke clears up. In Scott&#8217;s words, &#8220;Until this power issue is cleaned up and there\u2019s good confidence it\u2019s working correctly for end users, that\u2019s where you\u2019ll start to see us incorporate it&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hardwaretimes.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/AMD-Radeon-RX-7800-XT-and-RX-7700-XT-1920x1064.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-85574\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that Team Red will likely adopt the <strong>ATX 3.0\/PCIe Gen 5<\/strong> power connector with its next-gen RDNA 4 graphics cards.
