Intel’s 14th Gen processors are mostly identical to their 13th Gen predecessors, offering nominal increases in the core clocks/counts to keep the (rat) race going. Today, we’ll compare the 14th Gen Core i7-14700K (the KF variant) against AMD’s reigning gaming champ, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The CPU testing will be conducted at 720p “Ultra,” with and without ray tracing across 20 games/benchmarks.

Intel Core i7-14700K vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D: 720p Gaming Benchmarks
In “A Plague Tale: Requiem,” we see what can be best described as a tie. The Core i7-14700K averages slightly higher than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but the latter produces higher lows. Either way, it’s a close call.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla favors the Ryzen 7 7800X3D as it takes a slim lead over the 14700K. The 1% lows are almost identical, but the 1% average is higher on the former.
Cyberpunk 2077 tends to run better on Intel CPUs, and it shows. The Core i7-14700K marks its first win with a satisfactory delta of ~14% and considerably higher lows.
Dying Light 2 is the opposite of Cyberpunk. In this case, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a smidge faster than the 14700K but holds a commanding lead of 30% in the lows over its blue rival.
F1 2022 is another game that runs well on AMD hardware. The 7800X3D expands its lead over the i7-14700K to 18% in this title.
Ghostwire Tokyo is an outlier. Here, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D produces higher averages, but the Core i7-14700K nets superior lows. The deltas are within the margin of error, so we’ll write this one off as a tie.
Hitman 3 massively favors the Ryzen 7 7800X3D to the point that it’s close to 2x faster than the Core i7-14700K. The lows are much closer, leaving a delta of 28% between the two chips.
Hogwarts Legacy averages 247 FPS on the 7800X3D while dropping to just 141 FPS on the 14700K. The lows produce a similar gulf of nearly 2x between the two CPUs.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third consecutive title to run considerably smoother on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Although the X3D is 26% faster than the Core i7-14700K on average, the lows remain within close range.
The Callisto Protocol is an AMD partner title, where the 7800X3D loses to the 14700K. The deltas are sparse, but it’s a definitive win for the latter.

Intel Core i7-14700K vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D: Ray Tracing Benchmarks
In Crysis Remastered, the Core i7-14700K registers its first win of the ray tracing segment. The 1% lows are almost identical, but the averages are over 10% apart.
Cyberpunk 2077 runs smoother on the i7-14700K, even with ray-tracing enabled. The averages are relatively slimmer, but the lows remain as wide as before.
Dying Light 2 is a Ryzen favorite, granting the 7800X3D a lead of 43% over the 14700K. The lows aren’t any kinder on the i7, either.
F1 2022 is faster on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with and without ray tracing, but in the case of the former, the lows on the 14700K are comparable.
Ghostwire Tokyo marks another solid win for the 7800X3D, leaving the Core i7-14700K behind with a massive 47% lead. Strangely, the lows aren’t that different.
Hitman 3 is a crushing victory for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, as it leads the 14700K by over 40% on average, with a staggering 54% delta in 1% lows.
Hogwarts Legacy is the fifth consecutive win for the 7800X3D with a 32% delta over the Core i7-14700K. Luckily for the latter, the 1% lows are just 9 FPS apart.
Metro Exodus doesn’t run well on Ryzen CPUs on the higher-quality presets. Although the two chips produce similar averages, the lows are considerably lower on the X3D.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider goes the Ryzen way, granting a 14% lead to the 7800X3D. Despite that, the i7-14700K nets comparable lows.
The Callisto Protocol is the last title in our ray tracing suite. The Ryzen 7 produces a slightly higher average, but the 14700K nets a higher 1% low, making it the faster chip in this game.
